Vedaranniyam Fm
Type Locality and Naming
SUBSURFACE: The type section is located at exploratory well Vedaranniyam-A(depth interval: 690-160 m), on the Vedaranniyam horst. The hypostratotype is in the well Pesalai-A (depth interval: 1420-290 m). It was named after the Vedaranniyam village by ONGC team steered by Venkatarengan et al.(1993) and issued as Document-VII by KDMIPE, ONGC, Dehradun (1993).

Lithology and Thickness
Reef limestone. It consists of predominantly coral limestone, sparite and grainstone. Coral limestone is dirty white, moderately hard, with coral fragments and foraminifer shells set in a sparry/calcite matrix. Minor occurrences of asphalt, pyrite and organic matter are seen. Its thickness varies from 530-1130 m. Part of Narimanam Gr.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Not identified.

Unconformable with the Tittacheri Fm.
Regional extent
It is confined to the southeastern part of the basin.
